Most birds that crash into windows fly away unharmed.
Facts
About 70% of birds that crash into windows die immediately1. The rest suffer injuries such as concussions, internal bleeding, eye injuries, neurological damage, soft tissue damage, and broken beaks, and fractures to their shoulder blades, pelvis and more.
Not all injuries manifest right away, and birds often die only after they have flown away.
Adrenaline ensures that even badly injured birds can flee to a safe hiding place. Then, they can die within minutes, hours or days.
Injured and weakened birds can also easily been caught by a predator, or starve because they can no longer feed themselves.
