Integrated structures

Integrated building elements such as sunshades, shutters, grilles, louvres, mesh, and other functional or decorative structures can serve as visual as well as physical barriers between birds and glass.

They must be on the exterior of the building, and they must provide enough coverage at all times and from all angles in order to be effective.

In the example below, the sunshades appear to effectively hide the glass, but from straight on, the same building’s windows remain clearly visible and lethal from a bird’s point of view.
